'The cat's got the measles and the dog's got the whooping cough, doggone.' I learned this tune via the version recorded by the New Lost City Ramblers. Trapezoidal balsa-top fiddle, crosstuned tenor banjo, guitar and thigh-slapping n' hand-clapping.

Do you like Uncle Dave Macon? I sure do. Folks who don't like Uncle Dave oughtta go visit a brain doctor. He's the kinda guy I want in the Oval Office......I also dig cheap electronic keyboards--they seem a modern version of Sear Catalog Autoharps. Almost anybody can make some kinda decent noise on 'em, but they can also be played well and make good musical music. I'm talking the ones with full-sized keys, twin speakers, can run on batteries. All by themselves they need no further amps, can be matched to the volume of acoustic instruments, and are full of all kinda great sounds. If it sounds good, it's good. Ya know?........ So I added Yamaha Cheapo Keyboard to a fave Uncle Dave song. Because I dreamt I was living at Uncle Dave's boardinghouse and there was a piano in the parlor. Plus a string section. Not Really. Yes I did. No I didn't. Toss a coin why doncha?

You tell me. I have NO idea where this tune comes from. Just something's been yonder in my head for many moons. I dimly recall lyrics too: "Way down yonder in the bayou country, down around loo-eez-ee-ann." Doug Kershaw, maybe? You tell me.

Hubby learned it from Ernie. Big Leg Ernie. Fetch the baby some beer. Peter Stampfel's Ether Frolic Mob live at Jalopy Theater 2/12/10
Hubby plays guitar and sings lead, Peter fiddled, I played harp, maybe some fiddle or banjo, John played guitar or tamborine, Zoey and Jeannie sang, drummed, shaking some shakers. Jeannie's puppydog Gertrude barked some thereabouts in the tune.

Is you nagged by pesky Carpal Funnel Silicone? At last there's hope!! Throw away your regrets. Sees The Daze!! Ether Frolic Mob, Jalopy Theater, Brooklyn, 2/12/10. Naked Postal Fiddle Bowling is the latest thing. Somebody says they dreamt about it on Blogapedia while texting their GPS chat buddies.
HOKAY!!
There's a lot of instrument-swapping in this combo, since mosta us like to demonstrate our ineptness on a wide range of instruments. However, here's who played what on this track, I THINK: Peter sang while slumming on de old banjo, John Cohen played rolling-cadence existential banjo, Hubby Jenkins played guitar, Jeannie Scofield played percussion and sang, Zoey Stampfel played drum and sang. I bowed AND strummed the fiddle.

Recently a bigtime record mogul heard us play this song and he said it has commercial possibilities, maybe could even hit the Ringtone Charts--seeing as how everybody loves a Scamp. Ya think? Peter Stampfel's Ether Frolic Mob during a recent incarceration at Jalopy Correctional Institute For The Musically Be-Damned, We tried to learn 'Folsom Prison Blues' for the show but couldn't find any black stage clothes so there went that Big Idea. We did this song instead. The other inmates really got into it!! Recorded 2/12/10
Peter croons whilst thumping his guitar, Zoey sings and drumalizes, Jeannie sings while rattling some kinda cha-cha device, John stared in agape wonder at the proceedings but maybe got inspired to give the tambourine a whirl, Hubby played, oh I'm not sure. I played 'satanic riff' hokum-stuff on banjer, but mostly I was trying to ignore a bellyache from laughing too much.

Actual song-title is SCREAMIN POST INDUSTRIAL BREAKDOWN. This swell gavotte was written by John Parrott, a bonfide lightslinger muse-server from Memphis, Tennessee. The wonderful world of whistle while you work out an affordable burial plan, oh chumpy crickets us. Peter Stampfel's Ether Frolic Mob, recorded live at Jalopy Theater in Brooklyn, 2/12/10.
Peter sang and played jolly good fiddle. Zoey bomped the tribal drum and sang ooh-lahs, as did Jeannie. John played the fandango guitar, Hubby mighta too, or maybe worked the bones. I played the contra-oom-pah piano thang. And they said we weren't cut out to be a dance band!! HAH!!!

We heard John Cohen singing this in West Johanna Arkansas in 1902 so Zoey invented a time-travel skateboard to go fetch John. Due to an unforeseen traffic delay, one minute of John's voice remains back in Ark, back in the day. The rest is pretty modern like. Indoor privvies and such. Live at Jalopy, 2/12/10.
John and Peter co-sang--sorta like Johnny and June only different. More like the Neverly Brothers. Peter also worked that fiddle some. I played geetar. Zoey drummed. Jeannie percussed. Both a them probably sang some. Hubby played gitbox or percussed.
