Oh man that takes me back! The family get togethers often involved singing this one.

I put something together with Maestro app. Sounds like the beginning of Hallelujah. (L. Cohen)

I am on a plateau. The new appartment has tile floor everywhere and suddenly I am forced to play way more subtle... I feel like totally out of inspiration also. The few weeks with hardly any fiddling moments were not good for me. I also seem to forget so many tunes... Like each time I remember them I have to struggle again like a beginner before i get into the feel of it. All hope is on the JTL fiddle. I am hoping for some magic
Hang in there, Anja...we all have our ups and downs. As far as the noisy tiles, I would get my hands on as good a mute as I could find. Or if you got a cheapie electric fiddle, you can play them hooked up to headphones or even just play them without hooking them up...they're still audible but very quiet.

Why do you feel the need to play subtly? It is because the hard surfaces make you seem loud? Fear not. You are no louder than you were before, it's just reflecting back to you. Some folks live for that echoing space (not me, it's a bit much). You'll need to get things on the walls, bookshelves, a couple of rugs, curtains, that will all help with the reflecting sound.

I typed a whole long answer this morning, then suddenly there was no internet connection for a short moment and everything got lost. But you got it right, basically I seriously scared myself off with these reflections hahaha. This evening went better!
In the early morning I placed a 2-3 meter rubber mat - which is Ziva's indoor training mat- at one side of the living room and a rug of the same size at the other side of the living room. it makes more difference than I would have thought.
Thread resurrection!
CPR administered…
So…Whatcha playing lately?
Me:
- Working up the courage to sing rocky road to Dublin at sesh. Maybe in about 5 years…i still need to look at the words, I love singing but I have always been a bad words rememberer.
- Obsessively playing the Holly Bush reel…somebody in the workshop brought it up, and I became obsessed with it and neglected to practice any of our other “homework” for the week…uh oh!
So … whatcha playing?
Hey, don't know what key/mode you're playing it in but i worked up a version in G minor. Edit: (Dorian i think, so F Maj?) . it sits really nice on the fiddle and it seems to be an ok key for singing it too. I have the first verse up to speed again singing wise. And the fiddle is a doddle in G min,...(D note turn around on Merry). Also got the G & D drones for acc while singing. Good luck....![]()

I have listened to the Holly Bush jig!
it’s like, the same tune but with a different rhythm…quite interesting.
I wonder, which one came first!
PS Btw - Here is a boy playing the Holly Bush reel...I can only hope to play it as well as him someday. His accordion might be bigger than he is! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=480115260744107
(You do not need Facebook to view)
(Yea and Pete, I can remember a tune after a few times round, but Words? LOL! Hopeless!!! Right now I just sing it in whatever key I am humming in...I am pretty sure it's nowhere near what I play it in on fiddle. On fiddle I think I start on E (e string) because I learned it at session and that's the key the flute player always starts it in. She plays Rocky Road + Dusty Miller...nice set.)

Hmmm... I wonder if we have the same jig in mind. Not hearing any similarity but I don't really know the Finbar Dwyer reel that well. This one starts out like Mooncoin except in the key of G. The reel starts out like the Cameronian!
Hmm yea, all I know is I was looking for players playing the Holly Bush reel and I clicked on one of the videos and was trying to play along…and then I realized, wait, they put a jig rhythm to it!
I would not be surprised if there’s another jig called Holly Bush too!
The name thing is always fun…LOL…
Never got above zero today. For some reason Bob Wills seemed to be the ticket.
That's "Cotton Eyed Joe," but not the way Bob Wills played it. Here he is, with Tommy Duncan on vocals, from I think 1946:

Gotta learn that one! :-) I can see how it would go nice into the Nightingale...
Just picked up my fiddle again... just for fun :-) Trying here to play the little theme I came up with during the first half of my playing together with an online metronome. When I try to just play without any specific thing to pay attention to in my mind it sounds ok. But the moment I dare to concentrate I fall out of the carrousel again. It seems like the only thing that works is just to play and dream away.
