Flat bridge? Kinda
Shoulder rest until it hurts, then it lays in my arm, real old style
I figure my head is big enough...
Still trying that square peg, round hole thing
Covered the shoulder thing already
Rabbits are silly...
Is 300 really a thing? I mean, most of mine are around 420bpm
I've broken 3 hairs in 3 years
Incredible bowing??? I wish. As for the bow...nope

"...made in China" ..another fad, maybe?
I think - as long as the quality of their instruments can create and satisfy the demand in a particular price range - then our capital markets will continue to provide a profit for those "anti-capitalist commes" (
) I have a guitar, a fiddle, a mandolin, and a banjo - all made in China. All very nice instruments. They are worth keeping while I have sold others. In fact - I traded the fiddle and then bought it back from a member here on FHO a few years later. Truth told though - I wanted to have it back more because it was my first fiddle - still a good one though - imo.
But - like everything - some of the entry level instruments are just that - a little more than junk.

That sounds odd. I have seen fakes before, so maybe that's it. Tonica is a set that's been around a fairly long time now (they were Pirastro's response to the popularity of Dominants). Because they're not one of the newer sets that have been designed for short break-in time, they, like all the older synthetic sets, need at least a day of solid playing to break in. From there they're stable, though, and they last pretty well.

Strabo, I've found a way to make my fiddling sound better...I play with people who sound worse than me... (appear)..
... Problem is.. I can't find anyone who sounds worse than me!!!!

Unfortunately, players of other styles have been guilty of that transgression as well.

Wait a minute now. That's not a fad, it's a tradition! A tradition based on solid folk research where it was long ago discovered that the true Italian masters...not those upstarts from Cremona, but the ones in the nearby Lombardy Pre-Alp high country...designed the top plates a little thinner than optimum in front of the bridge so that the fiddler could easily adjust the tonal color of his (not a misogynistic pronoun back then) instrument with application of rosin layers. Of course, flatlander prejudices scrubbed the historical record of hillvinnie genius, but those with mountain genetics always somehow knew.

That reminds me of a time when someone, in all seriousness, asked me, "Why is the top of your violin painted white?"

Yeah, I'm too lazy to put on extra rosin... So I spray paint the top of my fiddle....and if you believe that..
Turkey in the Straw a fad? Not around here, although mangling the words might be.
