For almost two years now, I have been playing a violin made by Ed McCoppin, who works out of Monroe, MI. I've been playing for 6 years, and I fiddle with several groups, while also being a part of the community orchestra. Of all the fiddles I've played over the years, and all of the fiddles I've owned (which ranges up to the teens) I have never played a better one that the one that Ed McCoppin made for me. Not only can Ed make outstanding instruments, he also restores old instruments and does amazing repair work to all different kinds of stringed instruments. At the moment, he is restoring a fiddle that belonged to my great-great grandfather that was from approximately 1810-1830 (this info also came from Ed). Many of his instruments, both the ones he makes and ones that he does work on, make their way to Elderly's Instruments in Lansing, MI. I also own an instrument that was built by Ed's instructor, Ray Doerr, but was then redone by Ed after Doerr's death. Both instruments are of amazing quality. Ed's attention to detail, quality, and playability of his instruments beats any other maker or shop in the area, and he runs his business right out of his home. It's hard to find a maker that is so easily available and also as nice and helpful as Ed is, and I recommend his services to any player who appreciates quality equipment and who loves to play.

I love to play both fiddle music and classical music. I'm in a few different fiddling groups and I love to do contests in my area. I play some bass (mostly jazz) and some guitar, but my fiddle always wins. My instruments are my babies, and I wouldn't trade any of them for the best fiddle in the world because they all have too many stories behind them. I give lessons to younger players in my area, too. I like all kinds of fiddling: old time, texas style, celtic, old country stuff, and some swing. I have been busy lately, so I'm not playing as much as I would like to, but I will always have the music and don't plan on stopping. ;)
