Hi FHers
I'm new to the site, and I hope you all can give me some suggestions. I started playing "violin" when I was younger, but put it down after about a year. Now I have begun playing bluegrass and I decided to give it a try again. I am loving learning the fiddle, but it still sort of sounds like a violin. What I mean is it doesn't have all those cool little things that fiddlers do (i.e. the slides, and runs and playing on two strings) that make it sound like a fiddle.
I have been looking online and on this site, and the number of videos available is astronomical! Do any of you out there have any good advise on an instructional video that really keys in on those little details that makes a fiddle sound like a fiddle? I have pretty basic knowledge of the notes, the music, etc. even though I play mostly by ear. I just need to learn those little tricks that make it sound less like a classical violin!
Thanks all
Rebecca

Experience Level: Just Startin'
Interests:
[Jamming] [Socializing]
Occupation: Teacher
Gender: Female
Age: 52
My Instruments:
I'm decent on piano, guitar, upright bass,
Just starting to get better on fiddle and banjo
And just beginning on mandolin and dulcimer
I've toyed around with the trumpet, clarinet, and the sax, but don't currently play them much.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
I like most anything. I think all music has something to teach us, we just have to look harder at some than others! I love Irish folk and ballads, fiddle tunes (obviously), American folk music, bluegrass, and really just about anything else.

I am a 6th grade history teacher (ancient civilizations) in southwest Tennessee. I also have a group of students who are learning bluegrass that I work with.
