Pray that my car continues to run for two more weeks. I am off to Mars Hill this weekend and I have been looking forward to it since I found out it existed and I was actually going to get to go!
This is fiddle week for me. Last night I attended an organizational meeting for the Hoppin' John Fiddler's Convention. I will be the volunteer coordinator. At the meeting, it was mentioned that Hoppin' John is hosting a cocktail hour(s) up at Mt. Airy Fiddle Convention this weekend. So...now, instead of heading towards Asheville on Sunday, I'm going to drive to Mt. Airy on Saturday. hate to admit it, but I'm probably going to sleep in my car and then head to Asheville on Sunday morning. Its exciting to know that one of the camp hosts at Mt. Airy is going to be Betty Vornbrock. She'll be teaching Advanced fiddling at Mars Hill. I won't be attending that class ha ha ha.
Other related news. I picked up a borrowed mandolin today. A man I met at a jam a little over a week ago offered to loan me his old mandolin so I could maybe take a workshop in it at BROTMW. I took it out of the case when I got home and managed to play Old Joe Clark, Red-haired boy and a sketchy rendition of Whiskey Before Breakfast. Boosted my confidence a little because I've been feeling a little frustrated lately. I seem to have devloped carpel tunnel in my bowing hand, I had a bad lesson this week where I seemed to miss everything and I don't feel like I am progressing as well as I'd like. Hooray mandolin for helping me feel like I do know something. Thank you Ray the mandolin guy!
