. I learned hootenanny music on guitar at the local YMCA in 1960. By the early 70's I was writing ballads for my girlfriend. I played guitar around the campfire for river running tourists in the early 80's. In the mid 80's I joined the Stagecoach Band in Wilson, Wy. I earned bass in the early 90's to play for barn dances. Around '95 I picked up the mandolin (in order to learn fiddle tuning). I finally tarted working on the fiddle in 2000 because I wasn't getting any younger. Due to sickness, elk hunting, and other unexcused absences by the real fiddlers, I did my first stint as the main fiddler for a dance in October, 2007. I wish I could say it was a success. Well, a couple of the tunes worked. The dancers only left a half an hour earlier than usual. As somebody else around here said, "I'm not good, but I'm better than I was."
