After playing in school orchestras and taking lessons through high school, I started fiddling sometime around 1974. I was Wisconsin State Old Time Fiddle Champ in 1976, and toured and recorded with a bluegrass band, 'Grass, Food & Lodging, until 1980. While studying history in graduate school I played country, swing, and a little jazz to help make ends meet, and appeared on Robbie Clements's prize-winning children's albums and a few other projects. In 1996 I was the Kansas State Fiddle Champ. After settling in Michigan with my family I joined Detour, a band I'm playing with now.
