Irish fidddle books.

From Tommys dad on 2/5/2011 7:34:43 AM

Has anyone used the Matt Cranitch book of The Art of Irish fiddle Playing? I am looking for a book that would have Jigs Reels and Hornpipies used for step dance.

I can't answer your question about the Cranitch book. Someone I respect has used materials from Paul McNevin with good results. I haven't ordered yet though. Here's one link, but I think he has many more materials out, too. Just FWIW.

There are a lot of them in the Fiddlers Fake Book.

Since you asked about music books I assume that you are looking for sheet music. . Chief O'Neils 1001 tunes has a good selection of tunes you would know and there are a few differant books to select from. TimK already mentioned "The Fiddlers Fake" Book: . This link thesession.org/tunes/index.php has a large selection available to search through, if you know the name of a tune that you would be interested in finding .

Just a follow up from me about Paul McNevin's book and CD. I ordered them, and I am really enjoying them. I've learned a few tunes, and I like the assistance in adding in various ornaments. The CD has a LOT of good tunes on it.

Just as Bart said here is a followup to what I posted B4, this link freesheetmusic.net/dance1.html will take you to a website for O'Neil's dance music that I made mention earlier. Hope you like it/can use it. 1001 tunes. . .Slainte
