Jigs Reels and Hornpipes

From Tommys dad on 2/2/2011 7:58:04 AM

 Hey John,

Jigs Reels and Hornpipes played in Irish step dance is what caught my interest in picking a stringed instrument again. My girls step danced when they were still at home and I loved it.  I would love to connect with people who play at "Feis" events and could steer toward the tunes played at competition. I though it would be great if I could play for my future grand kids.  I play a couple of Jigs and Reels by memory now and am always looking for more.

Curious to know if this group will include music of Scotland and other associated sorts, or gonna stick to strictly Irish? Was just mentioning to someone I was thinking of starting a group for Irish/Scottish/Related Trad.

Much of Irish music has its roots in the Scottish tradition it would be fine with me.

Hi Paul ,
I am not that familar with the competition or " Feis " but it does sound interesting maybe you could post a blog about it ?
Nice that you have a goal to play with your future grand kids ! What fiddlers are you listening to now ?

Yes indeed Bart ,
This is an open group so members can post blogs that relate to forms of music that are of a Celtic nature .
While I may have started the group, I do not have any intentions to mico manage it. I would like to see it take on a life of it's own.

John
