St. Paddy's Day Music

From nancymae on 3/13/2012 10:56:49 AM

Hello Everyone....

Not that we NEED a reason to play our ITM...or our fiddles, I was just wondering what others were planning for this weekend to celebrate the music and history?

I am traveling down to Milwaukee to celebrate with my sisters..and eat some great corned beef!  We are also having a cookout on Sunday, where I was planning on bringing down my fiddle to play what I have learned.  I am debating about this, because, even though I have had MASSIVE improvement in my playing, I don't think my songs are that great yet.  Should I risk them not wanting me to bring my fiddle down in future years?  Or should I just trust they would not want to shoot me after it's all over.  This will be my first solo shot, after 1.5 years of learning the fiddle.  I have been in jams, but there were so many other musicians there, I could sort of play every 4th note and not be noticed!  :-)  So, I'll let you know what I decide--and what happened!

Oh...the songs I have worked on....I think I can do Sally Gardens ok...The foggy dew, Danny Boy...all without major screw ups.  Gets trickier with the faster songs..Irish Washerwoman, John Ryan's Polka, Britches full of stiches (can do this one fine too)....a few others.  Parting Glass, Ash Grove.  Hey..I guess I have built up a repetoire....who wooda thunk it!!!  Hmmmmm...on the side of taking it now....if all else fails...I'll tell them the story of the fiddle being the Devil's Box....

Hope everyone has a chance to celebrate this holiday with music, laughter, fun and love!

Sainte!

Nancy

Jameson in my coffee, play some fiddle for my 90 year old aunt. She doesn't hear that great so she actually enjoys my fiddle playing.

That's cool nfritzir....sounds like you had a great time!!! The weekend sure went too fast....St. Paddy's day should be a whole week long!!! I'd like to learn how to play the bodhran...got one at Irish Fest a couple of years ago, but haven't committed the time to learning it...sounds like I'm banging on a box of Quaker Oatmeal! :-)
