Playin banjer's no picnic. It's one solid weekend of hard work.
I am having a conflict with my neighbor downstairs who is just always seeking... conflicts :-/ and being extremely bossy about the house. I haven't been playing since last clash where I had to call the cops because she and her partner were verbally extremely aggressive outside claiming nonsens about me and calling me a nutcase where all other neighbors could hear it.
They recorded that one time where I played outside as if that proofs anything (for them it was a proof I am a nutcase). It was in fact just a one time test before I went out busking at the ponds to see how the old fiddle would sound in the outdoors... the whole thing lasted like 15 minutes and IF they had a problem with it then they had to tell me about it instead of secretly filming me, which I find extremely creepy. The fiddle is a major point of discussion. I live in a governmental rental apartment in a house that was split in two apartments, and I live upstairs with Ziva. The woman downstairs is very sensitive to normal living sounds, during day, during night... always! Thanks to the cops it was made clear to her that 'no night noise between 22 pm and 7 am' DOES NOT mean at all she can prevent me from leaving or entering the house with Ziva between these hours. She and her aggressive partner who lives in the same street denied everything about what happened before ... that they had been so aggressive, so cops could not report on this. They did however notice that Ziva was a good dog and not the monster that these people had described to them. Anyway, it's too hot now but with better weather I'll be looking for some new busking places around here , I can take the bus also to visit further away nature parks to practice.
All effort now goes to training Ziva with the Nino Drowaert system to work on three different heeling styles. We made some good progress since I started following this guy, he knows exactly what to do with an nvbk Belgian malinois and works without corrections AND with the explosiveness and high drive that he helps to turn into very fast obedience. But the heat at the moment is a bit in our way. Luckily thanks to my mobile airco unit I can keep the temp below 24 degrees celsius inside. Gives me time to study the STSK9 videos that I paid for.
Long update here hehe as always :-p
I won't give up , I'll find a way out. Just listened to me and the last recordings I made, which bought me back here, I can almost cry because I was getting somewhere, but I might as well laugh because it really did not sound bad at all :-))

Quincy early in my fiddle life I could walk out on the roof of the old building I lived in and I would play fiddle. It was quite nice and cooler than my 3rd story walk up apartment. One day a lady with a babushka on saw me with the fiddle case going out to play somewhere and she asked me if I was the fiddler on the roof. I had to admit that I was. Years later the woman who lived downstairs from me told me how much she enjoyed the music back then. I thanked her because I was just working it out then,
I am sorry you have a such a selfish neighbor.
Wow RobBob, what a great story this is!! You obviously became a local legend to that woman who called you the fiddler on the roof, I love it :-)
I know it's the title of a movie also, but I have never seen it, so I went looking up what the metaphor of a fiddler on the roof stands for.
I feel a bit like a fiddler on a roof here in this building, oh yes.
But the contrast with busking in nature is big, I'll just hold on to that :-)
Anja you’re obviously not in a good place with those intolerant people living downstairs. Hopefully it can improve for you soon. It’s a good thing that you called the police, hopefully that will put some manners on them. Don’t let them stop you from playing music. I often have to put a mute on my fiddle to please my house pals.
Anja, it seems like you and Ziva really need a little cottage in the woods somewhere. Life is too short to be consumed by strife.
Don't know if your research turned up the fact that the Broadway musical was influenced by the paintings of Marc Chagall, especially those depicting fiddlers:

This lovely painting also depicts someone with a violin:

Thanks martyjoe, maybe Ireland countryside would also be an option later on in life hehe. I have heard from several people it's a more than fabulous country , not only for the people and typical Irish pubs but certainly also for long hikes with the dog :-)))
Doug, actually I'm working towards a plan like that. Even a trailer would be an option, and chance is big I might take the step to actually move to the Ardennes when job life has ended.
I love these paintings!!! Very retro style of depiction , a bit like these old posters for chocolat or coffee , they throw me back to a time I was not even born but where I always longed for .... although I cannot say exactly why that is!
You might just fit right in over here. A historian was telling me once that Mullingar was once a garrison town of Flemish origin and the original language that was spoken in it was Flemish. He pointed out that all the different towns around had distinctly different origins, it’s no wonder the Irish accent changes so much in short distances.
I’m guessing that we have at least fifty fiddle players that post here regularly. So I reckon we should all call over one night for a good hearty jam session to sort out your neighbors. wrench13 can even bring his bagpipes for a test run.
Whahaha strike now, that would be a brilliant idea :-p and I had no clue about flemish influences in the Irish language! I just thought rigjht before I was about to close my eyes this hot night mmmz I wonder about FHO... to notice I just arrived in time.
I know it 's a rather weird maybe even inappropriate question, but do some of you fifity perhaps visit the Scottish festival in Alden Biezen in Bilzen? It's the only place I know for sure where fiddlers would gather in this province, but you know , they're Scottish - unsure if there's a link haha.
These answers cheered me upfor sure :-D

That can be your job. Get yourself a kilt with the best Put tartan and go check it out. Then you can report back to us with a full review. Be careful though, that Scottish fiddle playing can be pretty contagious!
@martyjoe: my mind went from wait a minute to ... dang, I HAVE to get there! Visited the website! It would be so cool if I could find someone to visit the camping with me , I got two very decent vaude tents, none of them I can set up myself though lol. I put a message on my facebook and will ask my cousin, if I'm not mistaken she went there in the past but unsure how she would feel about camping... I have 96 days to dive into some basic scottish melodies, because I would at least take my old fiddle with me ( one never knows!!! )The price for a two day ticket is very reasonable certainly with the early bird offer! I got everything that is needed for some camping fun!
Please let someone feel like they must be there also, in my small circle !!! Friday and Saturday seem the best days to taste from the music. I LOVE bagpipes so much <3
