Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Here's an Irish session tune that everybody seems to know. :-)
If you feel like playing it yourself, I'm playing along with this YouTube backing track by Andrew North:
Out on the Ocean - backing track
PS There have been rumors of "Irish Washerwoman" showing up here? nudge nudge ;-)
thanks Pete, you too! :-)
it felt a bit weird to fit my playing to the backing track, since at session we melody players launch into whatever pace/rhythm we want, and the backers follow us (ideally, that is) This backing player has a cheerful “up” popular feel that is like what we’d play for punters…alone in my garage, I think I play it a bit different…(I’m not as cheerful, haha)
NCnotes - Very nice, sounds like you've got a shamrock in your hair! The backing guy didn't quite catch the ending though, did he?
I may get to try "Irish Washwoman" today, but it won't sound as Irish. The power keeps going on and off here, and I'm getting tired of resetting clocks, and plant light timers, but we'll see.
Doug, yea I cut him off since I didn't think you guys would wanna listen to it that many times through! :-D Like, I don't have variations on it or anything. Unfortunately in Garage Band they don't seem to have the "fade out" capability...whenever I make Garage Band stuff I wind up lopping off in an abrupt way (unless I'm playing backing guitar myself! Which I'm working on!) Good luck with your Power!
Pete, cool that you are developing the Shifting superpower!
Pinkies are kinda "out" with me too. In parts of tunes where there's a ton of pinky pinky pinky, I just shift up to second position to avoid...It's a workaround that makes life easier, but maybe some powers-that-be would disapprove? (but even in classical, the "easiest way through" is usually the approved way...)

Sorry a little late for discussion. Just thought I'd throw in some interesting mention for Irish Washerwoman

For something a little different...

Interesting! Apparently one thing they dumped was the “jig” rhythm…like, over here across the pond, we don’t jig :-). Hmm. But we do waltz.
It’s fun as a Reel, and I like hearing how people played around with it. Honestly I always thought it was a bit of a cliche jig and I’m glad people got creative,
So many people have commented here that I think the SoundOff must be starved of content! As Peggy has said, hopefully more people will share tunes they are playing lately. A good tune is worth a thousand words, eh?
