I guess I haven't totally forgotten how to play fiddle yet, but I'm getting there fast. Not to mention my horrible panic at the sight of a camera staring at me...lol...but there's nothing else I can do to make music right now. I'm playing (or fumbling, really) along with a Tombigbee Waltz jam track I'd put onto YouTube a few years back...that came in handy for me earlier today when I jumped on a few minutes to scratch it out. I realize how much music is like medicine, like oxygen, at least for a fumbling groundhog like me...it just helps me to play and glad for each moment I can try. Anyway, here's Tombigbee Waltz, in G, tuned to GDGD, with an audience of Teddy bears...lol.
Ok...I did my part in waking up the Soundoff Forum...you're turn!
UPDATE...sorry guys...apparently I've offended a buncha people here with my videos. I removed the link. Sorry, I have no desire whatsoever to harm or bother people with my music.

Glad to hear you've found even a little time to play - I do think music can be a healing force. I no longer follow external links posted in this forum though, only audio files on this site.
I don't know if anyone has noticed that one result of the conversation after your last attempt to wake up the forum was that one of the few members who used it decided to pick up his marbles and go home - he deleted all his content and closed his account. I think one other member stopped posting content too. So it was a net loss. Maybe it'll be more successful this time.

What's up with the videos? Is it suffering through the adverts? I can dig it. It sux. On-site vids prolly don't have this problem. If I knew you'd watch, I'd put them on FHO.

No! It definitely wasn't you.
I was going to lay three new one's out, on here, but if you're going, I'm going.
I ain't afraid of showing my dare-re-air on here. I been doing it for a long, long time. Bible says Pride is a sin. I give music as a gift. If someone thinks it smells, don't whiff it.

And, someone quitting in a huff just because someone else did this???? What the heck is going on with FHO? I thought this was a place where folks could just enjoy fiddle music, all kinds and all levels, from all kind of folks without taking offense over triviality, packing up and going home. I haven't been posting much on FHO lately, so I'm wondering what I've missed that could have resulted in this seemingly trivial kind of quarrel.
BTW, I can't imagine Groundhogpeggy ever offending anyone.

That's an observation that is telling everything. The question is how many can follow this short analysis you give here?
Luhmann's system theory mentions the risk of blind spots when autopoietic and thus self referential communication systems share 'information' (in the broadest sense of the word ) .

Without any explanation - except for a cryptic comment about ...what someone decided to do. ...things happen. I'm sorry they made that decision. I can't even imagine the reason for it. Something about Peggy's last attempt to wake up the Sound Off was offensive? ...really?
Something Peggy said? Her video's? ...or was it something somebody else said about posting videos? Maybe it was something I said in the "exhange of ideas". I don't recall anything rising to that level. But ...everyone makes their own decision about what they react to - and how they react.
I'm still clueless. No, please - don't explain. Doesn't matter to me - unless it was me.
I'll join the chorus. Don't let this bother you Peggy. Your videos are always tasteful and a pleasure to listen to. There is no reason for you to feel guilty or ashamed - at all. Your decision to stop will only mean us losing a little more of what makes FHO worth coming back for another visit.

Doug why do you dislike external links? I'm not asking for any reason but out of sheer curiosity!
For me, YouTube is one of my main sources for listening to and learning tunes, so I don't mind going to look there at all. I like "seeing" people fiddling or making music, it adds another dimension of enjoyment - next best thing to being at a jam together, or going to a live performance...
I have an interesting history with YouTube. In 2018 I decided to 'get serious' and start a channel with the few/videos recordings I have made...which got hijacked by Ukrainian nationalists.
I guess that started while logged in I made a comment someone didn't like... and that began a series of events that lead to my account getting flagged as violating community standards. Some of the things that were happening in relation to that channel and in the comments were so disturbing that I had to delete it.
Around the same time I had started another YouTube channel related to my theology degree and that channel was BLIPPED out of existence without a word. Ironically, the channel's goal was to separate traditional Christianity/Judaism (particularly traditional communities in Palestine) from popular political movements. The videos I was collating there were fairly milk-toast, but illustrated the abuses of power (some of which are now being revealed in the E-files). I reckon I hit a nerve with someone who didn't like what I was doing. Wild world we live in.
It was earlier this year I attempted a new channel with a new gmail, and that was flagged as well...so I watch youtube, but won't be a part of it now.

I'm going to try to 'correct' you not because I'm that arrogant but I know I am very well observing, because you need to understand. I see all the info you gave in your complete post. If you ask me , the chance is big you got targeted for your expertism. Sounds like these were cracktivists who DO exist with religious bias and who DO rage wars. Be aware. I heard like more than 10 years ago the warning from someone whose view I highly value when it comes to tech visionary: "Chinese are trying to get American sats out of the air from a distance". Look at TikTok: that same person who I quoted here, understands it causes short flashy information designed to give a power boost to your dopamine system. It causes brain rot. I am not pointing at all the Chinese people, I think chance is existing it was a false flag op, not pointing at any nationality here, please don't get me wrong. But be aware, and this is spoken in tech terms: some DO exist with prejudgment that is rooted so deep in their brain that they end up like this.
I like a good balance between online and offline. Please take good care Shawn and thank you for that magical moment where I found your album just up there on YouTube, that was so beautiful.
I don't like to reveal myself and see it as forum-rebellious: but as an atheist I say this, now read my post again.

I think Doug’s point was that Peggy said she wanted to wake up the forum and get people to post more, but ultimately two of the very small group of people who posted their own videos either stopped posting them or deleted them and left the site altogether. As he said, it was a net loss, because in the end, the number of regular posters shrank.

Excuse my ignorance, but I still don't understand how, after about a decade or so of my posting links to my own playing, one day when I did that two people who also post their playing got so turned off and upset they left FHO for good. Sorry I don't understand it. Now I see nobody posting again, which is why I said something in the first place...maybe "wake up" is somehow offensive, if so, again, excuse my ignorance as to why and accept my apology for saying wake up...but I always look at the Soundoff Forum, even when I don't have much time, which is the usual case at our house these days..because since I don't have the privilege of knowing my FHO friends in person, I can have a chance here to just hear what they are up to. So, I won't say wake up, but it would be nice to know what y'all are up to. I know people sometimes scatter their playing across other forums...which is a good way for them to be missed, at least by me. So...if I get the time maybe I'll try to get a video up...but my own time is hard to come by for me, and I'm halfway afraid that since I'm still confused as to what went wrong, I might just make it all worse and end up with more people being so upset they leave the site...so...well...there we go. It's all I know and I feel sad I can't play hardly at all now, can't record and fearful that as much as I've loved doing that, in my own stupid amateurish way of course, and sad that if I do get a minute or two to myself for doing my own thing, it will upset people for some unknown reason. There we go...I'm lost...lol...in so many ways. But in the meantime I'd love to see what people are up to. Love to hear people's thoughts as to the ever-changing fiddling journeys. I don't like that word, "journeys," lol...sounds kind of Thespian or something...but fiddling sure is a trip, ain't it?
Oh gee whiz...my post disappeared before it went...ok in a nutshell...I hope onto this forum, Soundoff Forum, a lot, since I don't have the privilege of knowing my FHO friends in person and can't ever get together with anybody, hoping to just see what everybody's up to these days. My intention to kick it up a little out of the dust somehow offended two people, according to what I gather from posts here...maybe because I used the word, "wake up?" or for whatever reason. Excuse my ignorance here, but I still stand confused as to what went wrong...I've posted videos for at least a decade and enjoyed so many by others...but anyway...maybe I'm incapable of understanding how two people got very put off by my posts...but just saying...it would be fun to see what people are doing...you know, the way we did back in the old FHO days? This forum seems very stalled...yeah I would put something on here every day...lol...if I had any time to myself and if I had a way to make multi tracks and all that...but I don't, so I can't...and nobody is forced to click on them whether I did or not. If I could sit with y'all in person, and if I could keep up, I'd say "Hey let's try it again and let's try to harmonize, add a part, etc., blah blah blah" . Yeah I'd ever include the blah blah blah...well anyway...I stay confused...the Soundoff Forum seems to stay quiet...and I'm feeling kind of guilty, for something I don't understand that apparently I inadvertently caused.
I've been thinking about this and finally realized what I should have realized from day one. I have not heard one word from the actual people I somehow offended, just second-hand guesses and such passed down from others, and it's all stuff that doesn't match up or make sense. So, to whomever I have unintentionally offended in my own little accidentally-ambisinister-amiss way, would you please at least give me the courtesy of understanding what exactly was offensive. I can learn something from it...apparently I'm missing something and being a naturally kind of socially awkward person, I could use the education whenever I end up breaking the rules. So, to those people, if you are here, or if anyone here has contact with them...I would love to continue only with them, so we can cut to the core and quit dancing around.
Hi Groundhogpeggy,
I'm 100% sure you are innocent in this affair. Others will no doubt back me up. Laying out the facts:
1) You posted a couple times to 'wake up' the Sound Off forum (yay! That was a GOOD THING)
2) Someone, for reasons UNRELATED to anything you posted, deleted their content (that's unfortunate, but we will never know exactly why)
3) Someone else made an ironic comment about the unintended consequences of your thread to wake up the SoundOff forum actually reducing it.
This last comment was in my opinion worded in such a way that it COULD be misinterpreted as actually blaming you for the kerfuffle. I'm certain that was not the intention of the poster, but that misinterpretation has blossomed into a round of unnecessary self-recrimination on your part.
This is my earnest attempt to set things at rest, although I'm just a bystander here. GHP, we love your music and your contributions on FHO!

I think the horse died and went to the glue factory a good while ago now, so at this point we’re just flogging its bones. Perhaps if the skeleton is beaten the right way, some music will emerge (in the style of the Danse Macabre), but that has yet to occur.
When the topic was fresh, I shared my observation that there was an unwritten rule that anything posted had to be showered with praise. Someone else pointed this out and observed that there was a lack of realistic feedback and that there was never any constructive criticism offered. I had a feeling that even constructive criticism wouldn’t go over well. There have only been a few critical comments that directly addressed anyone’s playing, and none of them were directed at you. As I had predicted, the best way to get people to provide any substantive criticism was to post videos of other players; this allowed everyone to forgo the fear of saying something that might be perceived as negative to any player directly. Doing this got a lot more response, some of it even thought-provoking, but it was quickly discouraged because it wasn’t my own playing. I had also pointed out that posting the kind of videos that didn’t fit the mold that had come to characterize the section would likely get more response—and it certainly did—but that got a lot of pushback from the few players who posted their own recordings.
What strikes me is how often you’ve repeated the claim that people are attacking your playing. I haven’t seen a single post that actually critiqued your playing in any of these threads, so it seems that the whole argument that you’re promoting about driving people away with your playing or offending anyone with it is a product of your own making.
As it’s been pointed out, a couple people have either stopped posting or left entirely (as I recall they were likened to young children leaving a game in frustration). They chose not to make a public comment about their reasons for leaving and they clearly didn’t send you any private messages to explain. If that’s the case, then it seems to me they prefer to keep their motivations private. To demand that they explain themselves, or worse, to ask other members to track them down and interrogate them is quite invasive. On top of that, you’re now making statements about what it’s unacceptable for other people to think, a very different position from what you’ve said before about not caring what anyone thinks.
I think putting the thread in terms of needing to “wake up” hit a nerve with a number of people because it didn’t make a lot of sense at a glance. The section had been largely following the same pattern for years without much incident. It was surprising for you to characterize it as asleep given that you have posted so much of its content and there wasn’t a noticeable change in its activity. Thinking about it a bit, it occurred to me that you tend to make comments of this nature when you yourself haven’t posted something as recently as you feel you ought to. For comparison, I’ve observed the same thing in other sections—if you haven’t felt like posting a response to the threads that are most active, you tend to post about how it’s so quiet on the forum, even if there is activity. Thus, the liveliness of the forum for you appears to depend on how much you’re talking rather than how much is going on around you.
With that thought in mind, I had made my conclusion and moved on without posting anything, but then there were two posts that opened the door for some real consideration of the section and its possible future and brought some of the longstanding elephants to the table. That discussion broadened the scope and invited more members to share perspectives to see if there was any consensus or any room for change in the format. It became a community discussion, but now you’re reimagining it all as a personal attack on your playing even though you’ve been heaped with fawning praise and you’re taking personal offense at other people choosing to leave the forum.
Post as much as you want to the Sound Off section. I don’t think anyone has asked you to stop. Perhaps if you post more of your own recordings you won’t even feel it’s asleep anymore.

I know I'm dragging it along, but it's very upsetting to me that I seem to have been held responsible for some unnamed FHO members suddenly deciding they needed to leave. Even worse, I heard only bits and pieces of this through a convoluted grape vine, not the original sources.
I don't care, as I've said many times, if people critique my music...it's my own, my own arrangements and versions of things as they've evolved over the decades...I know I"m not perfect and I know I obstinately do things my own way, so criticism is fair. It wouldn't stop my playing.
I do care if someone says I have turned people away, especially as I I spent any moments of my musical experience that I could share hoping to give support to others, believing that music is a medicine for anyone who plays or tries to play, and perfection and comparing ourselves to others is detrimental to our musical experience. So, to think of accusations that I would behave in some way to repel others who enjoy playing is just not acceptable to my mind, and I can't help but wonder, who, what, why????
Anyway, I guess it's best dropped and forgotten. As I've also told before, life has handed me a situation where I can't record, can't even tune an instrument, just about...can't play...so posting on here is becoming more and more of a rare opportunity for me ... my duties call me away from it.
So...it's gonna bother me forever I guess. But I won't ever know what the heck happened...it really doesn't matter much at this point. I'm just sorry that it did happen.
