yeah 4 flats, Ab in baroque tuning would be G...And its modes. Confirming ...Just tune up a semitone and play in normal fiddle keys and their modes G,D,and A

that is if you want to play with those instruments...

I said if I had ambition this weekend I would add some "examples" of what I thought I had seen in the tunes. I do not have ambition this weekend, but still I'm going to post two tunes. This time I decided to transcribe them to keys more friendly to fiddle. Both were in three flats, but because the modal scales were different I ended up doing different things. The first tune is Gwechall, Ma Mamm Garret, which according to Google Translate is In the past, my dear mother. This tune was in E-flat major (three flats), so I transposed (via Musescore) it to D major (two sharps).

The other tune is another march (Ton-Bale). This was was also three flats, but the modal scale was C Aeolian. So I decided to move it to D Aeolian (one flat). Moving it down a half-step would have taken it to B Aeolian, which would be awkward despite the two sharps.

Once again, the images were generated by me via Musescore. They are not copyrighted.
