More About Me
Educated at the Western Conservatory of Music in Ontario, Canada, Mike Mitchell began playing the violin at the age of five.
His passion for music led him to a string performance major at Youngstown State University, and more than 10 years of national touring with rock and acoustic ensembles.
Currently Mike performs with VA and NC bluegrass bands and presents his own hybrid concert called "Classical Grass." He also plays fiddle for WV jam-band, "The Recipe." His critically-acclaimed ൕ Hours" was released in 2008 and "Classics on Conners", a CD of classical music played on Conner-made string instruments, was released this past January. His latest, and best-to-date bluegrass recording, "Dead Center" will be out in time for the holidays.
Mike is founder and director of Floyd Music School, teaching violin/fiddle, viola, mandolin and guitar, all styles.

Mike is an amazing violin/fiddle instructor! I am fortunate to live close enough to take lessons in person....weekly. But I have witnessed portions of some of his Skyped lessons, and am impressed with how effectively he is able to teach via Skype. Mike's knowledge of the fundaments of music structure coupled with his brilliant playing styles, both bluegrass fiddle and classical violin make him a very versatile instructor. He's also quite good with his mandolin and guitar students, and is a very dedicated music instructor. We're lucky to have him! - longboy
