As a banjo, guitar, and fiddle player, I've played on the stages of Carnegie Hall, The Ryman Auditorium, and The Grand Ole Opry.
I've taught online since at least 1998 (back when Skype was the only one). I currently have a studio of over 20 students.
Things I teach:
Old-time, Bluegrass, and Jazz improvisation.
My goal as a teacher is primarily to help meet YOUR goals. A lot of teachers have students learn a bunch of stuff they will never use for their specific goals. I tailor my methods for each student.
I do teach basic theory to all students (arpeggios and scales), as this not only helps your technique, but develops your ears as well. Theory is meant to increase your hearing abilities, not bog your mind down with facts.
With fiddle, the standard bowing patterns are taught, as well as tips to improve your abilities. I'll also go over tips to help improve your intonation (sometimes software recommendations).
I think it's important to study what came before so note for note transcriptions of other fiddlers playing are covered as needed.
Finally, my goal is that you don't memorize your way through music (you can't). You have to understand it, train your ears to anticipate sounds.
