From Carter Bros and Sons: with guitar: the hippies have really messed this tune up IMHO but I sure like it the way Andrew and Jimmie Carter played it.

this tune has a long history, david. i know you're up to speed on the va/wva material, drop back and listen to burl hammons' tune called "the route", for some evolution.
nicely played, too.
and yep, i love me some Carter Bros. and Son- i'd like to have all of their recordings, instead of the 5-6 i've pieced together.
hope all's well in Tx.

yeah, it is the same tune as the Route and Burl Hammons does play it nice. Maybe it is also a distant cousin to Fiddlin John Carson's Jimmy on the Railroad. Email me and I'll send you the Carter Bros complete works. I wish they had recorded more. Only ten tunes in all I am afraid. Best.
