From Bill Birchfield. You want to talk about drive? No wonder this tune is so highly regarded by everyone that plays it!

Interesting version - different chords on the B-part than used by Tommy Jarrell and Fred Cockerham, and no third part.
Of course, the third part they played is mostly just an excuse to play rhythm on a fiddle and banjo - not much melody to it - so I guess it's not surprising to see it omitted elsewhere.
Good version though and good job playing it.
Is this version from the Bill Birchfield who plays with the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers?

Ben Jarrell made up the version of Sally Ann that Tommy played, but Fred's version is really old-time Sally Ann with the Jarrell part stuck on it, the way typically now VA-NC folks play Sally Ann. But East TN is another world.
