This is an exercise in imperfection. You know how a second can take an eternity? That happened when Steve started the banjo part, and I had this sickening realization of just how fast I was gonna have to go with this one. After the eternity of that second, I took a deep breath, and lit in. Start was a little rocky, and you'll notice I hung on the 2nd phrase twice. I was still thinking about it.

Yep, that's a lively tempo sure enough!
Sounds like you handled it with authority, though.
Impressive.

I think I play this tune at HALF the tempo you're keeping up here, and it still seems fast to me! If I tried it this fast I think my fingers would end up tangled in the strings..

Thanks guys,,um,,it wasn't my idea to go this fast with it. I almost looked up at Steve and said,,,'wait,,,let's start that again,,,slower,',,but then my non reasoning brain took over and said,,,ok,,,,if that's what he wants,,,let's see what happens. [:)] Like I said,,,imperfection,,but thanks,,if you think it sounds authoritative. That makes me feel better.

Yeah - that "non-reasoning" brain is essential to good fiddling.
You're really lucky to have a good banjo player like that though - even though he likes to play fast....

It's the oddest happenstance OT,,,I was reading a banjo site, where players advertised,,and I looked at the address,,,,,,,just 5 miles on the other side of Franklin,,and I was in Garden City at the time, three miles to the east.(I'm back in Franklin now,,that's why you'll hear cars zooming by on the hwy during some of the pieces,,the hwy was 60 feet from my front door.) I called him up, and we connected,,,he's from KS. Knows the Freighthoppers, the Wilders, Split Lip Rayfield, and so though he's a mean frailer, it's definitely with a Bluegrass thrust, tempo wise. He's 20 years my junior. So he's 38 now, and I'll catch him if I can when he gets back from his sabbatical. Yeah, I was lucky to run in to him. Pat
