Learned from the Ian Campbell Folk Group's recording, where it was a song with lyrics. Song or not, I always liked the melody. My recollection of their vocalist served as role-model for what I fiddled. If memory serves, the lp's liner notes said the song was based-upon from 'Ten Miles From Louisville,' which I dunno if I've ever heard.

Sounds like its based on "Eight More Miles to Louisville" - a great song from Grandpa Jones .... except maybe some parts that aren't! Sounds good - I'll have to listen on better speakers in the morning.

Yeah, Doug--that's the correct title! Pardon my 'Senior Moment' mind & memory. Next thing ya know, I'll be recalling it "as learned from the GLEN Campbell Folk Group." ....Which is ok--makes things all the more interesting. Kinda. Wasn't 'Wichita Lineman' just 'Boating Up Sandy' with lyrics added by Jim Webb Pierce or something like that?

Russel, if ya ever hear the Ian Campbell's Folk Group's recordings, you'll be very, very delighted. Davey Swarbrick, one of THE master fiddlers was in the band. All vocalists sang MELODIOUSLY, tunefulness abounding. Great lyrics too. I wonder if having 'folk' in the band's name put some people off, or attracted buyers who were seeking something more singer-songwriterish? They still seem an anomaly to me, a band whose sound & approach was unique, not easily categorizable. ANY fiddler, anywhere, should be inspired upon hearing the group's take of 'Battle Of The Somme,' fiddled by Davey Swarbrick. An all-time chill bumps experience.
