A friend listened to tapes of Bill & I while at her job in a restaurant kitchen . The restaurant's owner loved the tapes, so we got a gig without even looking for one. The restaurant didn't take reservations and had picnic tables outside, under an awning, where people could wait till a table became available--or they could choose to eat their dinners outside. So we entertained them while they waited or dined. Sometimes they'd have their dogs with them. Sometimes the dogs would join the combo. The fidelity ain't much--probably recorded on a cassette walkman. But Bill's groove comes through. BARK BARK BARK.

This one has just a bit of a cajun feel to it. Must be the dogs. I love it!

Bill, tho very much an OT fiddler, had 'big ears' and catholic tastes. Besides OT, he played in bluegrass, cajun and jug band combos/jam sessions. So a cajun feel is very likely.
This was recorded at Meil's Restaurant in Stockton NJ. The only name we ever came up with for the duet was 'Music At Meils'. It remains in memory as one the best combos and gigs of my life. We got $50 each and a free dinner. We often got plenty of extra $ in tips, plus sold tapes & CD's. No amps, no mics or wires, just two players and a buncha acoustic instruments, outside under an awning. Every friday and saturday nite, 7 til 10 pm, from april til' october. A neat thing about the recordings we sold was that many of the tracks were actually recorded there, live. So people who bought a souvenir of what they'd heard truly got precisely what they'd heard. 'What You Hear Is What You Get.'
That gig (and my busking of the last 3 years) really turned my head around regarding what is needed, in terms of gear, to perform music. Bill and I often looked at each other, grinning, to ask "is this a great gig or what?" Sure, we coulda made more $ (maybe--we often made over $100 each at Meils with the tips and recording-$cam included) playing in larger amplified 'real' bands at clubs, but that would've meant a few hours before and after each gig doing Heavy Appliance Hauling & Installation. Testing One-Two-Three....Testing One Two Three...Uh I need more monitor...and, uh, can you please turn everybody else down and turn me up?...Testing One Two Three.
