A tune in praise of law and order, unless the lyrics are sung and then it's an illegal melody. First heard this played by Hobo Pie. I asked did they write it and they said "No, we wuz framed--ya gotta believe us, Judge." Warning: Tho a swell number, do not play if gigging at Benevolent Order Of Patrolmen's party. Especially if ya got a vocalist.

Sounds like a fun little tune. Could you post the lyrics for us too? :)

Hmmm. Someone from WV requests the lyrics to 'Police.' Uh, ok :) POLICE (the 'Pat Boone' version) A helpful policeman arrived and politely tapped upon my door this morning, A charming & polite policeman came & tapped upon my door this morning That ever-so-nice policeman came and rapped 'pon my door I tapped him--lightly, as a friendly gesture--on his head with my .44. This morning............................ Play some scrabble, read a Worthwhile Book this morning, Do some charity work and then weed the garden this morning wash the dishes, darn the socks Say "come on in officer, the doors open! when the policeman knocks This morning.......................... I'll gladly tell you anything you care to know, this morning I've nothing to hide, glad to be of assistance, officer, this morning there's nothing which quite fires my ardor like being supportive of law and order This morning..................................

As usual, Jane is pulling your leg.(Very funny!)
The original verse is VERY violent.
I don't like it.
if you really want to find it, google
"Police come I didn't want to go, this mornin"
in quotes, and you'll probably find it.
(I just did, and got only 1 hit!
I think a lotta people don't like that verse!)
If I wanna sing that melody, I'll sing
"Frog Went a Courtin' to it instead!"

I sometimes play this song, with the actual lyrics, when encountering folks who have a too-romantic 'koombayah' notion of the range of expression in gentle kindly sweet old folk music from the nurturing hills and tinkling-with-simple-gifts pastures of the endlessly-perfect Good Old Days.
I'm surprised some kickass lean-n-mean punk band has never recorded a take on it.
Anybody seen John Sayle's film 'Matewan'? Or read up on the Molly McGuires?
