Bill on fiddle. John Gin on high-drone 2nd fiddle. On the basic track I played mandola. Recorded via stereo mic to mini-disc. Later I added rhythm guitar and 'sun records jaw-harp twang' electric bass. Fade-out to save upload time. I'll post the core track later on, no overdubs. This was the last track I ever recorded of Bill's playing. Had he lived, chances are we might've tried to find some players to have an expanded-combo sound something like like this.

Well, I'm happy to say that I have this tune before.... ;-)

You folks had a really nice string band sound.

Who's singing?

Really good job.  Wish I could hear the fiddle and vocal just a little bit better.

Oh man, great to hear Bill's voice again ... I need more of it ....

I realize now why I sound the way I do ...Bill got me started on old timey fiddle ...I think we would play Angeline the Baker at almost every jam with him ...

Don't remember ever hearing an electric bass though , LOL

Guitar is solid like a clock.

I love hearing a good guitar like that it does as much as tune as the tune itself.

When I first heard this version I thought, "Now, that's the way that tune ought to be played!"

Thanks a heap tiquose. What a blessing it was to've played with Bill, especially since I was trying to learn fiddling 'up close and personal' at the time. During the (far-too-brief) time I jammed-with & accompanied Bill, I couldn't have asked for a better 'mentor,' a better model for How Fiddling Should Be. Sure, I'd had influences and inspirations from records, but sitting next to a fiddle being driven like that--getting it right from the fiddle into one's eardrums--nothing compares to that kinda learning. Bill was modest...I was always knocked-out smitten by his sound, tickled pink to be playing alongside him, but he was always "Oh, I'm just a run-a-the-mill fiddler--you oughta hear so-and-so--now THAT's a fiddler!" Dang, I wish Bill could've seen other fiddler's responses to these homebrew recordings of his playing. I don't think it woulda gone to his head, but it surely woulda been special for him know how much other players, from far and wide, love his sound. I really miss him. He was fond of singing an old-fashioned tune, lyrics something like "only remembered, only remembered for what we have done, after we're gone." Something like that. To use a cliche--so true. Well, Bill was a heck of a musician and lotsa folks can remember that from these homebrew tracks. It's what he done, the sounds still available to hear, tho he's gone. I hope all this don't sound too sentimental, but so be it. I absolutely consider Bill to be one of the Master Musicians I've encountered in this life. He made that ol' joyful noise upon stringed instruments.
