What is the wood on that neck? - It s a nice looking instrument does it sound anything like a fiddle?

The neck is laminated maple, walnut and cedar. It sounds pretty much like a fiddle. I made a video to show what it sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WuhXA2J1To
