My most memorable moments on the railroad. In the shanty at bean-time ( LOL ).

My uncle worked for the Railroads - Frisco I think.
When I was a kid he was the station master at Black Rock, Arkansas. Then he moved up to Clinton, Missouri - where he eventually retired.
He was the only guy in the station at Black Rock - sat there all day by himself for years working the telegraph key - puncuated by folks coming in to either ship or pick-up freight. During the summers there I got to see the last of the Steam engines. My cousin and I would put pennies on the track to see'em get flattened - if they didn't "shoot out" into the field where we couldn't find'em.
Probably dangerous as all get out - it's amazing what kids will get into when they roam free.
Brings back a lot of memories.

OK , Now I get it, Rule G has to be in there some where
Between that rifle and pistol.
Tom used to secure the head on the caboose and do all the cooking.
He could have been a chef anywhere.
When we tied up at Bell glade all the packing houses were good
places to shop if you know what I mean.
Fresh corn, radishes, celery, beans, lettuce , tomatos, He served iced tea
In quart fruit jars. corn bread. Generally all we had to buy were some pork chops or steaks for him to cook
Some times we tied up in Lake Harbor and run sugar trains .
I attended his 60th wedding anniversary in Live Oak.
