We sat on our front porch for half an hour while these two screeched. And watched us.

Great photos. Neat experience. Is it common to see owls in Poughkeepsie? I'm trying to think if I ever saw any up near Utica and I think the answer is no.
We had tiny birds build a nest in a gourd that we have hanging outside our house and my husband and I spent quite a bit of time yesterday watching them.

These "Bard" owls are quite common and stick around all year. A few years ago we had a lost Snowy Owl which had been blow in during a storm from its migration from the Canadian Tundra to the Long Island shore. they winter there on the beaches. This bird was exhausted and hungry we helped the local Rapter chapter capture the owl so they could feed it. It must have been nearly 2 feet tall with talons the size of a mans hand absolutely beautiful snow white coat with coal black spots. Wish I had the camera that day.

Had one last fall fly into the yard and eyeball the chickens just at dusk, thats why my chicken run is covered . they are awesome birds though, amazing how they can glide through a heavily wooded area and not make a sound
