What a wonderful photo! Tell us more about them. Where did they live? How did they come to be musicians?

This is Joseph Story and sons, front row, right to left, William, Joseph and Tom, top row, George, Ham, and John. Ham, short for Abraham, is my great grampa. They moved here from Tenneessee, They all stayed here in southern Illinois till they died. Why were they musicians, I guess because they had no money, pretty music costs nothing. I wish I could here them play.

That's neat. I'm told my great-grandfather played and I'm hoping one day to get photos of his fiddle. If I can figure out where and when it was made it might tell me something about how he came to play. Older instrument--maybe it was handed down. Sears Catalog instrument--he probably picked it up later in life.

I wonder if your family members played for dances? I wonder if there are any records left that would tell you more about their musical activities. Maybe they made the newspaper for their talents? Or somebody's diary?
