I burned some vacation time Thanksgiving week, so I was available to *help* with my 3rd grader's Thanksgiving party. I said to his teacher, I can bring my *violin* to play for the party. Ha - my ruse worked. I played almost nothing but fiddle tunes. I played a couple tunes from Suzuki Book 1 to keep up the ruse. The school's violin teacher showed up and one of her students requested her to play something, so I handed her my fiddle, and she played Yankee Doodle - cool. I also played a medley of Happy Farmer (from Suzuki) and Redwing (Craig Duncan courtesy of Mel Bay).

What music piece did you select for 3rd grade?

Sometimes the message gets truncated. I used asterisks in the original message instead of quotation marks to see if that helps.
I thought that I was only going to play in the background, but the teacher had all the kids come sit in front of me before I even had a chance to set up. Therefore, I told them that I was going into chat mode and describe everything that I was doing, such as tensioning the bow hair that came from the tail of a horse. I gave quite a show-and-tell. I want to be a third-grader again! I would be so much better at it this time around.
I played Dog Treed a Possum Up a White Oak Tree, Happy Farmer/Redwing, Minuet No. 3 from the Anna Magdalena Notebook by Bach (also from Suzuki Book 1), Snake River Reel, a medley of two versions of West Fork Gal (Alan Jabbour's and a knock-off of the one in the Fiddler Fakebook.). It's a Christian school, so I also played the hymn Face to Face.

I can only imagine the impact you may have made on those young minds , maybe you gave them a friend for life with the music.
