diggin' in my box of junk I think it had to be 96 / 97,,,, it was before they designated sparta tn. as the home of benny martin, & that was in september of 97. I was there for the sign placement,,,,we had a flat bed trailer with music. also what about your fiddle head? fraizer moss had something like that, on a fiddle, someone made for him. look just like him.. i can post pic. if you like to see. great day..............kat,

That fiddle head is just a "lion's head" carving.

My luthier says the fiddle was probably made in Eastern Europe - maybe in what we now know as czechoslovakia - around the turn of the century. There's no label in it. I got in in a pawn shop in Tallahassee Florida about 35 years ago.

It's a good sounding fiddle - though it would probably make a lousy violin.. ;-)

I don't think it's all that rare though. I've seen one other carved like it and I'm guessing they imported a lot of'em in the early part of the 20th century.

the fiddle i have now is one built by the late clayton king of crossville tn. in 94,,,not that old yet everyone that has play'd it says its a fine fiddle. it sounds great when everyone plays it,,,hope i can do it justice someday. he put a lot of time in it ..... its a one of a kind alright, yet not perfect.........., lookin' forward someday to be a proud owner of a gene horner, fiddle...also from that area...now he can build a fiddle............... all in all, a great soundin' fiddle can look like anything, & its all about the sound, sometime the fiddle just feels good too........................ had a very good sun, my daughter kim, & g-daughters, josie, linsey, emma..... volunteered at the gaurd, we have alot of men & women comin' home within the next few weeks...we had a long day, didn't get home till 8:30 last night... but had so much fun.........post pic fews days, today, charlie & mollys day,,,,g-son...great day to you, kat
