That's a sweet looking fiddle. What's the story behind it? Name, where you got it, etc.. Have fun with it!

Ok, first I will ask if you believe in miracles? This is how I got my fiddle but I am afraid that I can not tell you much more. I was in a business meeting one morning and out of the blue, fiddles/violins came up. I must also add that our meeting was in no way related to music. Someone mentioned hobbies or something to that effect and I said "I have always dreamed of playing the fiddle". This person who must be an angel on earth asked me if I had a fiddle and I of course answered"no, I don't know anyone who even plays a fiddle." She said "Well don't buy one, I have one you can try and just see if you like it." Her office was in the same building as mine and she brought it right to my work. I had never held a fiddle or a bow but I fell in love with the sound and everything about it right a way and I asked her if I could buy the fiddle. She said" just hang on to it and don't worry about buying it" ."I am glad that you are enjoying it." I must also add that I had never met this person prior to our meeting and only saw her maybe three time since. She soon found a job somewhere else. I attempted to pay for the fiddle every time I saw her and she wouldn't except any money. To me the fiddle is a true miracle, a gift from an angel. The whole thing was just too coincidental and I do believe in things happening for a reason. I know that the fiddle is cherry ,the back is solid and not pieced, and on occasion it sounds amazing! However, I don't know enough about fiddles to tell you anything else. I haven't even thought about it having a name. Is it written on the fiddle somewhere? That must sound ridiculous ! I recently purchased a new bow and I have taken a few lessons. I am starting lessons weekly beginning tomorrow and I practice each night. I do get frustrated but even when I am squeaking and scratching,I still love it! Thanks for your appreciation and inquiry about my most precious gift. I still find it difficult to imagine some days when I think about how I acquired my beautiful fiddle. I am looking forward to the time when I will be able to play it they way it is meant to be played.

What a neat story! It sounds like it was definitely meant to be. There may possibly be a label inside the left f hole with the maker on it. Keep fiddlin and have fun!

I agree and I have been very blessed. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I drive my family crazy with the same songs over and over again. I just love the sound of the fiddle and can't seem to get enough. I am hoping to one day find another person to practice with that appreciates the sound like I do.

Jody are you still playing the violin? I sure hope so.
How is Gladys? Say Hi to her for me, please.
Are you going to Maine FIddle Camp? I am going the week of Aug. 19 to 24.
I wish you would go/come, too. i guarantee you'd enjoy yourself, and Learn alot.
Elaine teaches there as you know.
I have a cello now, and am taking lessons, and although the violin is my first instrument, I am loving the cello alot.
Keep playing! Good Luck!

Wow.. You go girl. You are super ambitious. I am still playing my fiddle almost daily. I get discouraged because I feel like I need someone to play with to improve my skills. I recently was given a phone number of a fiddler in Pittsfield ( who as I understand it) won't mind a beginner fiddler practicing with them. It would be great if all works out. I was looking at going to camp in June but If you are going in August then I will put in for that week as well. I know that I would love it. I really miss Elaine she is a wonderful person and great fiddler. I guess I let work get the best of me and I am still working over 60hours a week. I am waiting for a background check to return on a potential hire and if he clears my schedule will be a lot better with a lot less hours. It is nice to hear from you. I see Gladys rarely she goes to all of her grandchildrens games but I will be sure to mention you the next time I see her. Would love to get together sometime..Take care and enjoy your music.
