Contest Rules

1. Contest is held during the Famous Old Time Music Bluegrass Festival. Participation is free with either daily admission or weekend pass for the Bluegrass Festival

2.  Contestants must be registered prior to 10am on Saturday, Sept. 10th

3.  Contestants may use 1 accompanist (not fiddle)

4.  Contestants may enter only 1 division

5.  All instruments used shall be acoustic (no drums)  

6.  Contestants will be required to play 2 songs, back to back consisting of 1 Waltz & 1 Hoedown. Contestant is allowed 30 seconds between songs

7.  Instrument tuning is not allowed on stage

8.  Contestants will be allowed a 5 minute delay for repairs (such as broken strings)

9.  Points will not be deducted for accompanist errors

10. Contestants will be judged on Rhythm & Timing, Showmanship, Fiddling Style, Tone, and Danceability

11. Trick Fiddling & Hokum Bowing is not allowed

12. Contestants must maintain a professional attitude

13. Contestants must take the stage when called or face disqualification

14. All decisions of the Judges and WOBA Officials are final
