I have just bought myself a purple violin. I think it was the last purple one in captivity at Animato Strings, but they do have coloured ones in the Silent range of violins. I am now looking at a Silent one for myself so I can practice with earphones and not upset the household. I have a very little bit of music reading skill but have bought myself two books about reading music and a few kids' books with easy tunes. I have got as far as "Hot Cross Buns" and want to progress to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with a further goal of "Amazing Grace".
I have found myself a tutor at Animato Strings and they have a competition, the Animato International Violin Competition in November this year, 2013, on the weekend of November 22 to 24. See http://internationalviolincompetition.com/ for details - there are three prizes - a $20,000 Guaneri replica violin by Konrad Kohlert who will fly to Brisbane to present it to the winner himself, and two prizes of money - $3000, and $1000 to spend in Animato Strings violin shop.
Pity they want Mozart and not Hot Cross Buns.
