Never to old

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there are many that pick up the violin again after many years of non playing.  I have not been active with music for the last 56 years and was moved to pick it up again.  Had to get my daughters violin to do it but now I have my own.  Currently playing a Baroque style "Song" violin, but not  the very expensive ones. It is coming back very slow, vibrato has left the old body, position changes just don't seem to work correctly.  Bowing is a mess, intonation is half way good.   Seem,s like the hearing aids (2 of them) and the bifocals are major adjustments to make.  From the sounds of this, One might believe that its a waste of time.  I don' t feel that way, I will continue until I get back into the swing of things because this time I can play whatever I feel like playing.

Any people that have done something similar, do you have any suggestions that might help?

Age 73, played from grade through High School, went to USN and then back to Medical Lab field. Dollars brought me into the Recreational Vehicle Ind. --Retired in 2005, Started playing violin again in 2010 with Horizon Chamber Orchestra. Having a tougher time this time around. One would think I was getting old and slower.
