Stone Mountain Festival - This Weekend

From robinja on 3/22/2011 2:03:43 PM

All - It looks like the weather is going to be great on Saturday, so no excuses to miss this! This event is in Stone Mountain Village, not Stone Mountain Park.

Starting at 10:00AM, on 3/26, there will be an Old Time Band Contest.  We could use some more entries to this, although I'm sure we'll have some last minute entries.  Contact me at robinja@yahoo.com if you want the rules, a registration form, or additional details.

Starting at 2:00PM, there will be a Bluegrass Band Contest.  I can get these rules and entry forms also if you need them.

At 1:00 and again at 5:00, there will be a contra dance with a live band and caller.

All day jamming on the streets of Stone Mountain.  The purpose of the event is to bring the old time and bluegrass communities together for a fun event.  The contests are low key events with small cash prizes and a choice of a donated non-cash prize.  They also hope to bring more arts and visitors to Stone Mountain to help revitalize this community.  Hope to see y'all out there - it was great fun last year!

is anyone planning on camping out Friday night?

I'll have ta get up mighty early to get there at 10:00 to see the OT contest. I'm also wondering if the OT contest is just for bands?

It is a band contest. I think there is a campground nearby, but it's only 15 mins from my house, so I'll be sleeping at home! Find another player or two and enter the band contest. You can register on site as long as you're there by 10:00.

I'm wondering if this event is dog friendly? I'm sure my pup would love to tag along

Sorry - haven't been on a computer since Friday. For future reference, you could probably bring your dog if you don't plan to watch the contests - they are inside a theatre. Also, there are no food vendors - they're trying to bring business to the local restaurants, so you'd have to figure something out for lunch time. The weather was bad yesterday, but we did get to play outside for about an hour before the raindrops chased us back inside. Luckily, the local merchants were happy to have us in their businesses, so it wasn't a problem.
