Hey members, what do you all think of modifying the chord structures in some of our traditional hymns? I mean the dominant 7th is used all the time but what about using a 6th or even a major 7th in places? Does that make the music sound too "worldly" or "night-clubby" for a religious setting? I want to honor God first of all and He did give us the gift of improvisation. Any thoughts?
EDIT (a month later): Not hearing any response from group members I feel like I'm talking to myself here, but I Corinthians 14:7 answered my question where it says the notes ought to be clear enough for the folks to recognize the tune. That tells me I ought to be careful not to go too far afield in modifying harmonies.
