There's a tremendous need for music in senior facilities, both sacred and secular. I also do Old Time and other old fashioned secular tunes, but I've been doing hymns, spirituals and gospel songs in various senior facilities for many years. If you're past the screeching and squawking stage, you should try it, maybe partnering with someone you know that plays guitar and sings. Well known songs are best.
Talk to the activities director about scheduling.
Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art and In the Garden are the top four most requested, so I try to do at least three of them at the end of every hymn sing. I do some by singing them with banjo and baritone ukulele, but if you play the most well known ones, you don't need to sing- they'll do the singing, or just hear the words in their heads as you play. If you want your fiddling to be blessed, make it a blessing to those most in need of one!
