Cross-tuning works for a 5-string

From hummyfan on 7/9/2013 12:46:18 PM

I just got back from a week at the Cowan Creek Old Time Music School in Whitesburg, Kentucky. John Harrod taught a class on cross-tuned old-time tunes. IT WAS WONDERFUL.

One of the other students pulled out a long list of tunes that "...sounded good in other-than-standard tuning." You can follow this link to get that list:

www.tunes.fiddlejammer.com/workshops/apr2011/OTlist.pdf

(That's a zero in apr2011/  and a capitol O in OTlist.pdf)

Let me know if you discover tunes that sound better or a easier to play in a cross tuning. The class had the most fun playing Rusty Gun in GDgb) and Bonaparte's Retreat in DDad (also called "Dead-man's tuning).
