Help me to choose

From Rankan on 3/18/2016 7:07:04 AM

Hi ! Im Håkan from Sweden . I normaly play on an 4 string fiddle but I want to go to the next level, to buy me an 5 string fiddle. Its an jungle out there and Im really not shure what to buy. I willing to pay up to 2000 dollars max ,but Im want offcourse the best for that kind of money.

I normaly play Swedish traditional folkmusic but  Im also in to little Irish and bluegrass.

Ive looked at companies like Violorama and old violin house , but I really dont know if the fiddles are good. there mostly build them in china and its very hard to get a soundclip of that specific violin that you want. You really dont want to buy an instrument that you have not heard.  Im also now have an 5 string fiddle from Dahlia that I can buy if I want. Has anybody of you tried one out ?  Is it any good ?

Maybe some of you can get me any tips or even have an 5 string that you planning to sell that maybe suits me.

/ Håkan

Dear Hakan,

A dear colleague of mine who teaches strings in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, uses a Dahlia 5 string fiddle and she loves it!

I play a 5-string viola made by David Rivinus (USA), and it's wonderful!

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Debby-in-the-Schoolhouse
