I am going to try and post things that have helped me along the way and I hope others do the same.

Last week, I sat with my fiddle teacher to play a tune (Fire On The Mountain) that I had worked so hard on to be able to play it without "thinking". While we played, it my teacher got up and stood behind me. After we finished, he said "You've graduated!". Oh man, what did he mean by that. He said, "We're going to take the tape off the neck of your fiddle." I panicked! The tapes were a big help. I didn't have to think about where to put my first and third fingers. I think he could see how nervous I was to take them off. He was great! He talked to me the whole time he peeled the tape off and reassured me that he thought I was ready. He said my muscle memory had kicked in and my fingers were going to the right places automatically. I was skeptical. So there I was holding my fiddle with a completely bare neck. He suggested that we play a tune that I knew well now that the tape was gone. To my surprise, I could still play it without too many adjustments. I'm glad he took the training wheels off!
