silly me, I thought this site was about fiddling.

Tony, I didn't see any source of the info you put up...especially concerning adequate tornado warnings in SE KY on the night of the tornado in Laurel Co. I had a local source as a newspaper report from the area hit, regarding the NOAA office in Jackson having shortages that affected the ability to provide adequate warnings to the SE KY area. So...essentially you seemed to have considered your statements with no sources as more correct than mine from newspapers in the area. That's what I'm sayin'.

Hey guys, Tony and everybody else...I need to apologize for my argumentative attitude...which has carried me through life...lol...being from a long line of preachers...lol. Seriously. So I am sorry for promoting differing opinions here...it's kinda like reading Sartre's Nausea, back in college...my first exposure to existentialism as a philosophy...how life is not what you thought it was. Never proven but backed up by my astronomy / physics class...well nevermind all of that...but seems to me we are witnessing the glaring tip of an ominous potential iceberg. Yeah...Jackson Weather Office had personnel shortages and had to scramble for help ... wondering if that helps got paid he same as the help that would've been there without the cuts??? Or maybe extra-overtime??? Or were they just nice for free??? So they had to get help...but no, it wasn't because of the cuts...and people didn't know what was going to hit them until it hit them...but not related to the cuts...like planes crashing since January, not related to FAA cuts...just something pre-arranged by earlier administrations to punish current times??? Now we read cuts to medicaid and food stamps...we worked so hard and left so much behind to rise above our need for those things... now we are retired and could easily be right back again...regardless...I know this will hurt or kill so many people who work hard and live honest, decent lives. I don't know. Tax cuts for tanning beds...less funding for hospital beds...makeup studio in the pentagon and military style parades...for me at least...I hope I am wrong...I hope this isn't the tip of some terrible ice berg which will be regretted when it hits...like the tornado...nothing to blame for what we didn't see coming. I hope I'm wrong...but I should have kept my mouth shut about my own unease with what I'm reading, seeing...etc. So I'm sorry and I will shut up about it. This post probably makes no sense, like any of mine now, because there are so many interruptions, living in a twisted up world...we make too much for any help and I'm clueless about how to manage what we are going through alone...so...yeah, in so many ways...life isn't what I thought it was, or even what I thought it wasn't. Crazy all around. Anyway... a long-winded preaching about how i'm sorry to have caused any anguish, stress, conflict or whatever...I might be entirely wrong...my fear is that I might be entirely or even partially right...lol. But everybody have a good day...and don't let a groundhog's ramblings stress you out.

Thanks Doug. Didn't see anything relating to when they were last online, but I'll take your word for it.

I'm going to log off now. See you all later.

Billy, on a member's page here, at the bottom of the "About" tab, is "Profile Info," which tells when your account was created and the date of your last visit, in your case today. It also tells who can view the profile information, so this info may not be avaiable for all members (but it is for the four "Moderators").

RIF based on ability, utility or.... loyalty?

The law provides that OPM's RIF regulations must give effect to four factors in releasing employees:

  1. tenure of employment (e.g., type of appointment);

  2. veterans' preference;

  3. length of service; and

  4. performance ratings.

An agency is required to use the RIF procedures when an employee is faced with separation or downgrading for a reason such as reorganization, lack of work, shortage of funds, insufficient personnel ceiling, or the exercise of certain reemployment or restoration rights.

As I said earlier. The local alert systems. tracking, and mobilization during sever weather events are the responsibility of local and state employees, not federal.

There was a failure to activate tornado sirens in St. Louis, Missouri, during a recent EF3 tornado that killed five people. The city's mayor, Cara Spencer, confirmed that the sirens were not triggered due to human error, meaning residents did not receive an official warning before the storm hit. Following the incident, a city employee responsible for activating the sirens was placed on leave and later dismissed, sparking a national discussion about emergency alert protocols. Officials are now reviewing warning procedures to ensure that future alerts are properly issued.  stlpr.org/government-politics-...ncer-says

Peggy - this is it...  We can take this off line / PM if you like, but I don't like doing this here.

Well I already said I'm sorry for getting into it and expressing my very opinionated self and fears for our future in this country...so...no need to say more and ruin that sentiment. Time will tell...we'll all find out together how this all ends up. Hope you're having a great day, Tony.

But one has to admit, the discrepancies now in the regular, formerly trusted news outlets and real life situations...this should scare the heck right outta everybody. We're not heading there...we ARE there. No free press. But you can read between the lines. This doesn't affect that, but we compensated in these ways, even though it wouldn't have mattered...etc. Celebrity news...that's it...that's approved. Scares the heck outta me.

I was talking to a friend in England the other day...well it was a shocking conversation...we have no trustworthy source of information now...we are on the verge of no academia, no free thinking allowed anymore...we seem to be heading to some weird unknown economic territory...with hubby having difficulty and my having absolutely no help or knowledge of how to manage the situation, I fear all we have struggled for to get out of poverty will soon collapse to be eligible for Medicaid, and that's going away, apparently too. So...I'm not trying to be political, really...I just want to trust the news outlets who are too threatened to tell the stories...I want to trust the governing agencies who have loyalists who don't know how the agencies work, I want to know what I've worked for will still be here for us, I want some help with our problems without going into poverty for it...it's not political...it's just surviving in a peaceful, free, stable society...I want that for myself and everybody else. Add that to my huge list of things that have me miserably depressed...to the point where each day is a dreaded day.

Peggy I go to YouTube and listen to the Meidas Touch program..they are attorneys who explain things in layman’s terms…here, I’m just suggesting something for you to listen to and not making a political statement….hope it doesn’t sound like that.

groundhogpeggy - Posted - 05/26/2025:  10:03:50

Thanks, Lee. I'm right there with ya...I do go to Meidas Touch videos whenever I can get the chance.  Those guys are good...and they have good resources as references.

But it still really scares me to see regular media presenting info in such a way that it flatters the administration regardless of what's really happening.  Twisted just enough to make things appear as prescribed.  I was talking with my friend in England and just the conversation sounded so...well so North Korean-like...sorry to say.  I really worry about what we've become now.  media/info/free speech first thing to go... academia next, meaning people who are really smart will leave the country and we're stuck here with nothin' but just us dummies...lol...trashing the economy while talking points say it's just the genius art of the deal stuff in action...etc.  Scares me.  I wish I lived on some big yacht out in the ocean...lol.  I shudder to think the crime of handing anything other than freedom and justice for all to our up and coming generations...it's just criminal to leave them with this.

Just today Meidas Touch put up a comparative story of NY Times and The Independent..like night and day...it's gotten so info is chaotic and indecipherable and even the concept of truth vs untruth has gotten bogged down by twisted logic and factually contrived outright lies. I mean...yeah, sorry, it's sorta political because of how things thathappen to a country...but it's beyond political...it's current situation...current times. It's scary. 1984, but it took longer to get there.

It's hard when everybody's being sued, under threat of being closed down, under duress, being bribed by billionaires, or even threatened to be deported or jailed. That's when free speech ends for everybody. That's when judges no longer carry any weight. That's when law and order, democracy and freedom, are gone. Information has to come from somewhere else...just my opinion. We aren't used to that whole notion here in our country...it's hard to imagine ourselves turning into something like North Korea. That sounds crazy...but, well, I hope i'm flatout wrong about everything I think I'm seeing. Talk to somebody who lives in a thriving democracy, outside of our own country I mean, and see what they think is going on here.
