Hi, I'm currently using the D'Addario clip on and find it sometimes gets confused, is hard to read outside, goes to sleep too soon, eats up batteries like crazy. I'm wondering if there's another tuner that people recommend.

That's the one I use, their stealth model.

Have to be diligent about turning it off.

Fresh battery for outside playing.

Very discreet in it's positioning.

Is there another violin specific electric tuner?

I have an old Intellituner. Internal microphone.(I guess?)
Loud, loud stage, not an issue.

I really like and have used the following for years: Intelli IMT-500 Clip-on Chromatic Digital Tuner

Not sure how helpful this info is as I tried to buy a new one recently after dropping it on the floor and breaking it and it seems they are not being made any more.

d'addario. Hands down.

I use two. The D’Addario clip on the fiddle body model. Yes, I have forgotten to turn it off a few times.< sigh… The Snark model with both microphone and transducer built in. Slip it on a tuning peg if you have fine tuners. And yes, I have forgotten to turn it off a few time too..

If you're talking about the D'Addario NS on body tuner, the manual says it turns off automatically after 10 minutes. Isn't that enough time to tune your instrument? I don't think there's anything else quite like it.
I'm not much of a jammer, and I came up before the days of clip on electronic tuners, so I usually tune before a session or show, and then make any further adjustments by ear. I have a Korg simulated needle tuner which has worked well for years, and I really like the gString tuner app which I have on my tablet and phone. I do have a Crafters clip on tuner, which I bought because it was small enough to fit in the small accessory pockets of my old violin cases. I don't think they're made anymore, and I wouldn't recommend it because the buttons are tiny and finicky, but it does work.

Ears.
But mine are getting less sensitive ......Might be a good thing?

Just occurred to me that maybe the D'Addario tuner doesn't turn itself off until there's no signal input, and since its attached to the instrument that won't happen as long as you keep playing. So maybe you have to turn it off manually.

I've been really impressed how well my axe stays in tune. Sometimes no matter how in tune it is, my ears don't follow.
I use the D'A clip on and I'm really consistent with that off switch!! lol

That's right. I find the battery life is pretty good if you do turn it off between tunings. One thing I think should be considered is how any of these tuners read the notes. In general the technology has gotten better in recent years. I've used a number of different brands and find the D'Addario gives an accurate and steady reading. Other brands I have used have a jumpier read out.

Was totally about to say this. Ten seconds is plenty, but then you start playing (or your fiddle "hears" someone else's instrument).

I've probably mentioned it before, but as ChickenMan sez I just tune to wherever the jam's alpha dog is, no matter what instrument Mr. Dog happens to be playing. The way I see it, it's always good to make nice with your fellow partners in crime.

I use the D'Addario tuner, but I purchased 4 rechargeable CR2023 batteries to power it.

The charge doesn't last as long as a non-rechargeable battery, but who cares when you've got three more in your case?
