What devices are you using to record yourself or your group? I'm not looking for anything overly complicated. we would just like to keep the tunes we play for the future. Thanks in advance. Bob

Hey!
I can't reccomend Zoom products enough. The most simple recorder.

The Zoom 4 just adds more channels

But if you have the money, Go big with the extra channels. The newest ones act an interface as well and that's super handy. My eyes are on the H6

And, if you're looking to just have songs for reference purposes and you have an iPhone. Even Andriod has the ability to record right onto your phone. Then it's easily shareable from device to device. You can't get any easier than that. for instance, here is a 6 piece band, recorded in a room with an iphone using "voice recorder" I laid the phone on the floor and hit record... It's not studio worthy, but ok to listen back...And if this band didn't distort it, I don't what would. :)

The Zoom H4n adds more useful features than just more channels, and for the small price difference I'd recommend it. The H6 is meant for multitrack recording, and if you need that its fine. It can record just a simple stereo sound file, but its a little hard to sort out the results.

For multitrack projects, I have an old Fostex MR8. That said, for live recording, my Samsung tablet makes remarkable recordings. If I just want audio, I strip it off the video afterwards. My YT page is my testament. Not bragging on the player. I've found better to be the sworn enemy of good enough.

I haven't used it in years, but I got a lot of mileage and fidelity out of my Zoom H4N. I even plugged some pretty good microphones into it. When cell phones eventually came out, I switched to my Samsung for a while, but all in all I got to say that I no longer have a particular yen for recording myself. I'd rather just play.

We recorded a CD on a Zoom nearly 20 years ago and the fidelity was fine. I'm sure they are even better now.
