I've been waiting for Walter to start teaching the French Canadian workshops.
I see the school hired Matt Brown oldtownschool.org/classes/regi...ype=adult

If there's enough interest, maybe Walter will teach some follow-on workshops. I don't know much about French Canadian music but what I've heard, I really like.
And yes. It'll be nice to have Matt around. I took a workshop from him a while back and I liked the way he taught.

I think the original plans were to turn it into a day; workshop, pot luck meal, then dance. Maybe they need to prove such activities are desirable before freeing up the space for it? Its hard to speculate.
I do know the school is a bit busting at the seams until they open up the new facility across the street. Instead of having to limit themselves to 7,000 students a week, they'll be able to take in 11,000.
They told me they intend to start planning activities over there in January, but I also heard a rumor that the grand opening isn't planned until March.
Speaking of rumors, heard any rumors about Trad Fest? Like if its happening and if so, who's coming?

Maybe we need to get a few tunes under our fingers before we're ready to dance. : )

I assumed the dance would include all the tunes Walter has been teaching in prior workshops, not just Canadian stuff, First Friday/Open House stuff.
(btw, I see Barb Silverman and Elizabeth Lamberti are leading the open house jam this month. Not a clue who the dance band will be. Anyone who shows up?)
Walter had quite a following in his New England fiddle class before he moved down to Virginia. I expect to some of them show up for these workshops. A lot of the tunes are the same.
My husband was born in Massachusetts. His father spoke French until he started school.
The story I was told was, if one lived in the city in Massachusetts, they hired an Irish maid. If they lived in the country, they hired a farm hand who spoke French. I guess a lot of French Canadians came down from Canada to work in the New England mills.
